Many people suffer from anxiety and depression. This is not something that one should be ashamed of. If you have either condition then seek help. Often times people feel they can handle their emotional problems on their own. Yet if they had a persistent pain or physical problem they would seek help from a doctor.

Untreated, depression and anxiety do not go away. Both depression and anxiety are conditions that alert a person the mind is having difficulty. If these alerts go untreated the symptoms of each are intensified. These issues are like most others, in that they do not go away if ignored and they gradually continue to get worse until they are addressed.

Everyone has bad days. No one lives a charmed and blissful life, regardless of what impression they may be trying to give others, or of what is observed by others. However if your bad days begin  to out number your good days, it is time for you to take action.

Where to start? If you have not previously sought professional help for emotional stress or despair, the simplest plan is to schedule an appointment with your doctor or primary care provider. When you meet with your health care provider, explain what has been going on and ask them what course of action they recommend you take. For some people your care provider may prescribe medication. For others counseling may be advised. Some people will benefit most with a treatment of both medication and counseling.

For those of you who have had previous dealings with the mental health, you know what you should do. Medical advances are made every day. New treatments are being made available. In dealing with mental health, there is no one size fits all cure. If you have tried something, or ten somethings and it does not help, keep trying. You only get one mind. There is no transplant list for the mind. If you know you need help continue to seek it until you find what works for you.

Anxiety and depression can be very difficult to manage. The longer you put it off the harder it will be to correct the problem. I use the care of  a tooth as an example for people. A  tooth begins to have an issue, often in the form of a cavity. If a person does not have the (hole in the enamel) opening filled with a filling the hole gets larger and deeper until it has rotted completely away. Sometimes the tooth is caught in time to save it with a root canal. Other times the decay is too far along and the tooth must be removed.

In matters of the mind there is no removal as a last resort. Once the mind is gone it is gone. Given that all of your life’s function is directed from your mind doesn’t it make sense to take the best care of your mind that you can? If you have these or other issues and you do nothing, things will get worse. If you seek treatment it may take time but things may get better. A person has nothing to lose and everything to gain if they seek help.

Like I said everyone has bad days. Isn’t it time your good days out numbered your bad ones?

    Blessings
